The holiday season presents an opportunity for construction contractors to express gratitude, engage their workforce and give back to their communities. Making a meaningful impact during the holiday season not only connects employees but also builds community relationships. A new study shows that 40% of Americans plan to donate during the 2024 holiday season. Here are five ways the construction industry can give back this holiday season.
1. ORGANIZE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Participating in community service projects allows construction companies to utilize their expertise for the greater good. By helping to build a home with Habitat for Humanity or volunteering at local homeless shelters, companies can both address local needs in their communities and create team-building bonds among workers.
2. STUFF A TRUCK TOY DRIVE
Every year, millions of children could wake up on Christmas morning without a gift to unwrap without nonprofits collecting and delivering gifts to families in need. A fun twist on a toy drive for the construction industry is shown by Graham’s Stuff-A-Truck, where employees are encouraged to fill a truck with presents for children.

3. FOOD DRIVE
With the price of food increasing each year, one in five children in the U.S. face food insecurities this holiday season. Organizing a food drive is a small way to make a big impact directly in your local community. PCL Construction donated $77,000 to food banks this year, continuing its annual tradition of giving back. There is no shortage of need when it comes to food donations in communities across the country.
4. SPONSOR A FAMILY
Sponsoring a family in need is a great way to directly impact your local community. Work with a local charity to find a family and then encourage workers to donate time, money and gifts. OSM Construction supports a different nonprofit every month, with a focus on local families during the holidays, while Brookens holiday sponsorship program not only gives back to local families in need but asks workers to nominate families that may need help.
5. SPONSOR LOCAL HOLIDAY EVENTS
Collaborating with local charities amplifies the impact of giving back. Construction companies can offer financial support, donate materials or volunteer time to assist organizations addressing community challenges. Stoked Out Construction is spreading holiday joy this year at a local event, giving its employees a chance to give back while also interacting with their community.
