Managing Documentation for Transportation Projects

Share:

5/23/2018

Many infrastructure and transportation construction projects are leveraging digital technologies. Teams are beginning to embrace change in order to transform how projects are built and assets ultimately operate.

One example of this comes from Valley Metro, which provides public transit in the Phoenix, Ariz., area. This includes the planning and operation of a regional bus system and the development and operation of 26 miles of light rail.

As the transit system has continued to grow, including new high capacity transit extensions in the planning and construction stages, Valley Metro began using technology to help manage the projects. The result is greater efficiency and collaboration with project teams.

The next phase of Valley Metro’s digital journey is implementing Aconex Connected Cost to get early warning into cost impacts and forecast with greater accuracy.

Technology such as this can help manage records, communications, change orders, schedules, and other project documentation, ensuring accuracy in case of auditor review.

As another instance, the Colorado Dept. of Transportation and the High-Performance Transportation Enterprise (HPTE) are currently working together on multiple highway infrastructure projects, and must comply with government regulations. Software such as this enables it to always be prepared for audit checks.

As transportation projects continue to pick up momentum, technology can help manage all the documentation involved on projects.
