Electric Vehicle Sparks Jobsites

The EV (electric vehicle) fad began to take off a few years back, and now a real estate firm has unveiled its first fully electric commercial fleet. Does this signal an electric fleet will soon drive on your next jobsite?

JLL recently announced a commercial agreement to provide a fleet of electric buses which will operate between Chicago’s commuter train stations and two buildings. This represents one of the first businesses in the country to operate a 100 percent zero-emission electric fleet, as well as one of the first commercial customers to lease electric buses.

The program replaces diesel vehicles in the commuter program and helps achieve the goal of an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in Chicago by 2050 compared to 1990 levels.

While this is one example, greener transportation options are rising as zero-emission fleets are emerging as an alternative to other types of vehicles. Not only does this type of transportation reduce emissions, but it also offers the opportunity to reduce costs as well.

Perhaps this points to a larger trend in the movement toward more sustainable, connected cities—and could soon be a trend that moves to the jobsite in the future as well.
