Asphalt Additives Pave the Way

Asphalt road surfaces offer many benefits, including cost efficiency, noise reduction and driver comfort. Asphalt is fast to construct and maintain and is up to 100 percent reusable/recyclable.

Additives that modify the properties of the asphalt mix may sometimes be added to the asphalt binder, depending on the requirements of a particular paving project.

The primary reason for adding additives to asphalt is to increase the functional temperature range of asphalt. Additives are also used to enhance the binding property of asphalt by strengthening the asphalt aggregate bond. Additives improve the film thickness of asphalt, thus preventing cracking raveling, and deformation.

The asphalt additives market is projected to reach $5.45 billion by 2026, at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 6.4 percent between 2016 and 2026, according to a new report from Report Buyer.

The Middle East & Africa asphalt additives market is projected to grow at the highest CAGR from 2016 to 2026. This growth can be attributed to the development of business and manufacturing infrastructure leading to the growth of the road construction and paving sector.

Based on type, the emulsifiers segment is expected to grow at the highest CAGR. Emulsifiers are used in road reconstruction activities, where they are used as additives in cold mix asphalt. The demand for emulsifiers is rising due to the growth in road reconstruction activities, especially in North America and Europe.

Based on technology, the warm mix segment is estimated to grow at the highest CAGR. The demand is rising due to various properties that make it more attractive than other asphalt mixes. These properties will further increase its market share in the technology sector.
