Public-Private Partnerships Drive Intelligent Infrastructure

It’s time to build smarter infrastructure—as roads, rails, and other forms of transportation are advancing at a rapid pace. Public-private partnerships will drive the construction of intelligent infrastructure.

One example of this is the Hyperloop, which is being built across the world, and is often leveraging public-private partnerships (PPP) to bring it to fruition. Most recently, Virgin Hyperloop One announced the Indian State of Maharashtra’s intent to build a Hyperloop between Pune and Mumbai.

The company says the project will enter a procurement stage upon the successful completion of the feasibility study to determine the PPP structure. Construction would start after procurement and will be completed in two phases.

It will begin with an operational demonstration track built between two points on the route. This will be constructed in two to three years from the signing of the agreement, and will test the system for commercial operation.

The second stage will complete the construction of the route in five to seven years. The organization also says future projects could extend the route.

While this is one of the most recent instances of how a PPP will help build new, advanced infrastructure, there are a number of other examples emerging across the world. The end result will be smarter transportation.
