New Tire Technology Increases Safety, Performance

Tires are becoming more intelligent. Now, they are providing data to workers, ensuring a safer and more productive working environment, which also comes as global advance driver assistance systems continue to progress as well.

Allied Market Research shows that advance driver assistance systems will grow 21.2 percent between 2017 and 2025. This is due to the growth in regulations related to safety. The market that is expected to witness the highest growth rate is tire pressure monitoring systems.

Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

One recent example of this comes from Bridgestone Americas, which has expanded its portfolio of technology solutions. PressureStat is a tire pressure monitoring system for off-the-road tires in the construction, quarry, underground hard rock, and port industries.

The system provides access to tire information, including pressure and temperature. This enables construction companies to accurately manage the pressure.

Drivers can be notified of potential issues through onboard alerts or through real-time updates to mobile devices. The technology also includes inspection reports for an entire fleet as well as forecasting and analysis.

Concept Tires for the Future

While this is just one example, it is a growing trend in the industry. Late last year, Michelin announced a concept tire with an airless wheel that can be topped off using a 3D printer. Here the material used for the tread is biodegradable. Also, the tire is connected, meaning users can get access about the condition of the tire. This helps illustrate the future of tires.

For construction, tire pressure is essential in off-the-road tires to ensure a vehicle’s weight is evenly distributed, preventing uneven wear and increasing tire performance. New advances will enable construction companies to manage equipment better.
