Building Automation Systems for New Construction & Retrofits

Growing demand for comfort, customization, maintenance, support, reliability, safety, security, high energy efficiency, growing innovations in the wireless communication technologies, and advances in IoT (Internet of Things) are boosting the growth of BAS (building automation system) market globally.

According to a new report, the building automation system market is set to grow at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 10.65 percent between 2016 and 2022, which will reach $100.60 billion by 2022. In 2016, it was valued at $54.81 billion. Commercial buildings sector holds major share in building automation system market.

A look inside shows how the technical components can be incorporated into new or existing building projects. According to the report, BAS uses analog and digital inputs and outputs. Analog inputs are used to read variable measurement, whereas a digital input is used to determine if a device is turned on or off. Analog outputs are used to control automated system devices speed, whereas digital outputs are used to open and close relays and switches.

The biggest marketshare is currently in North America followed by Europe and Asia Pacific. APAC (Asia Pacific) is expected to show rapid growth rate due to increasing construction of buildings coupled with government initiatives.

However, there are also a few factors that are holding back adoption of the technology. High implementation cost, macroeconomic slowdown, and lack of legislative support are some of the constraints in this industry.

Still, this market will create unique construction opportunities and showcase the mixture of technology that can be included in both new construction projects and retrofits.
