Apps: Next-Gen Tool for Construction

Apps are proliferating on the construction jobsite. From gathering machine inspection and safety data, to capturing and saving project photos, apps are in common use. But can apps also be used to make renting heavy equipment easier?

Compact Power Equipment Rental, with headquarters in Fort Mill, S.C., recently announced a new mobile app designed to make it easier for construction companies to secure equipment rentals, including backhoes, excavators, and skid steers. The app, which is available on Apple and Google Play, includes a catalog of all equipment available.

Some of the features include access to both active and past rentals; re-rent past equipment rentals with the touch of a button; deliver to multiple addresses; select add-ons like extra fuel or damage protection; access to full rental catalog; and customizable enterprise account features.

The company still offers rentals online or by phone, but recognizes the mobile app is the next-generation tool that construction companies are looking for.

In fact, Richard Porter, chief operating officer, Compact Power, says with companies such as Uber and AirBnB, consumers are increasingly realizing the benefits of renting versus buying, and now Compact Power is bringing this convenience to the construction market.

This app is simply one example of how technology is making heavy equipment rental more accessible in the construction industry. The end result of technology such as this is contractors are able to save time and money, ultimately streamlining the equipment rental process.
