Concrete Admixture Provides Protection from High Groundwater

One construction project is using waterproof concrete. The new Petronas Lubricants Global Research Center in Santena, Italy, is a global hub linking the company’s technological innovation efforts in Asia, Africa, Latin America and North America. The main focus of the center is to test and optimize the performance of fuels and lubricants for greater engine and fuel efficiency and improved sustainability.

Here is the challenge with the research center construction project: water table conditions at construction sites posed unexpected issues.

Gilardi General Contracting needed to ensure that the testing areas and laboratories remain in a stable environment. Since the local ground water level posed a potential threat to the underground concrete structures and other areas, protecting them from any form of water ingress became key.

This is where crystalline technology from Penetron entered the equation. It was used for the foundation of the slab, retaining walls, and underground walls, and it helped provide protection from high groundwater levels.

Using this type of technology ultimately helped save the construction company both time and money, keeping the construction project on schedule. While this is only one example of a project using technology and innovation, many contractors are beginning to discover that technological innovation can help solve many of the challenges at the construction jobsite.
