Bridging the Data Gap in BIM

Share:

11/21/2018

There is a growing trend in the construction industry to move building information modeling (BIM) to the field. A number of technology companies are partnering to enable contractors to leverage technology in new ways.

Case in point: Synchro Software and GenieBelt are currently in a proof-of-concept phase to integrate Synchro’s 4D virtual planning and construction software with GenieBelt’s project management and mobile site reporting tool.

The objective is to connect the 4D construction model with the project plan data, which will give project managers at the jobsite visual construction data. This integration will also provide updates to the project’s schedule and BIM model, allowing for overview and insight into actual project progress.

Ultimately the companies hope to pass data all the way from the design phase through to construction and facility management and maintenance.

As another example, AVITRU and BIMsmith have partnered to develop integration for specification. Together the companies will pass data from BIMsmith’s BIM platform to AVITRU’s AIA MasterSpec solution. This will help link BIM data with product specifications, which will help enhance workflow on construction projects.

BIM has been in use in many construction companies for years, but now organizations are looking at how to extend the data to other areas of the project, including work being done out at the construction jobsite.
